History
BeeHive’s primary markets were in Ontario and the Prairies as
its’ major competitor, Crown® Golden Corn Syrup was the preferred
brand in Quebec and Atlantic Canada.
The BeeHive® brand was sold by The St. Lawrence Starch Company
in 1990 to Canada Starch Company Inc. Ownership was transferred
to BestFoods Canada Inc. in 1998 and ultimately Unilever Inc. with
their acquisition of BestFoods in 2000. ACH Food Companies, Inc.
acquired BeeHive in 2002.
BeeHive’s unique taste with a subtle molasses flavour and its’ golden
colour has made it a distinctive product. This uniqueness extended
to its’ definitive yellow BeeHive® bottle shape which was like a beacon
on store shelves from the mid-60’s until 2003. At that time the unique
package was changed to provide a new modern look as well as make
the corn syrup visible in the pack, easier to pour, easier to handle
and easier to store.
