Apple Crumb Pie

1/4 cup (50 mL) sugar
1 tablespoon (15 mL) Challenge® CANADA or
BENSON’S® Corn Starch
1-1/2 teaspoons (7 mL) SPICE ISLANDS ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon (1 mL) salt
3 tablespoons (45 mL) butter or margarine, melted
1/2 cup (125 mL) CROWN LILY WHITE® or
BEEHIVE®
6 cups (1.5 L) thinly sliced, peeled cooking apples
(about 1 kg)
1 (9-inch/23cm) unbaked deep-dish pie crust
Crumb Topping
3/4 cup (175 mL) flour
2/3 cup (150 mL) sugar
6 tablespoons (90 mL) butter or margarine
Directions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Combine sugar, corn starch, cinnamon, salt, butter and corn syrup in a large bowl. Add apples and stir to coat. Pour into pie crust.

Cut in butter with a pastry blender or 2 knives
until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle
topping evenly over pie. To avoid boil-overs in
the oven, place pie plate on a baking sheet.
Bake for 1 hour, until crust is brown and
apples are tender.
Tips
If crust browns too quickly, cover edges with
foil halfway through baking.
Cut in butter with a pastry blender or 2 knives
until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle
